Hi,
Sorry for the off topic

I have these old iphoto libraries and, as I hate the way iphoto keeps the photos hostage, I need/want
to move them all into properly named folders on a HD.
I am able to export the EVENTS into folders by choosing the event and file/export (set KIND to ORIGINAL etc)
and all photos export just fine, but the video does not. In the newly created folder on my HD, all the .MOV have only one (1) frame. I have double checked it the kind is set to original and it is.
What am I doing wrong?

I anyone have a better workflow to move the media out of iphoto please let me know.

#2 - Another question:
When you have many iphoto libraries, is there a way to merge them into a single one?
Maybe I am missing something but I don;t get the point of organising things this way (iPhoto's way). It really makes no sense to me.

Please advise.

thanks
joni

Have just discovered that setting KIND to CURRENT exports the .MOV file correctly.
1 step ahead...

Hi Joni
I agree iPhoto / Aperture libraries could be improved. Now EOL so no Love AFAIK.
Fat Cat Software has iPhoto Library Manager that makes some major improvements over Apple's management.… www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/
You can view photos in multiple libraries, move photos around, find duplicates etc….
They have a new app for "Photos" but haven't used that yet.

Hope this helps, Greg

Photos is nice, I'm liking it, and allows you to put everything into one, single "System Library" for your photos, which FCPX recognizes and works with very well.

BenB,
I don't like Photos just for the fact that it does not let you "reveal in finder" or export original file.

Hi Ben
Thought you still had to consolidate Multiple iPhoto libraries prior to switching to "Photos". Otherwise it only uses the current default iPhoto/Aperture library???
Can you consolidate libraries after switching?

I think Photos is one of those programs that Apple will introduce many improvements over time just like FCPX.
The linking of iPhone/iPad and Mac will push most people to Photos.
Still do most of my photo editing in Pixelmator.

Thanks, Greg

Photos gives you options. For example, one would be to read native iPhoto and Aperture Libraries without changing anything. Another would be to import those into the native Photos Library, and make it the central "System Library". It adheres to the new Library bundle architecture Apple seems to be using in all of their apps now. Soon all apps use the same Library bundle, and their browsers can talk to each other. But you have a few options when you set up Photos. And you can do all that library merge stuff at some later time, too.

And yes, you can export an original.

And now the "Gotcha". The reveal in Finder command is there, but it seems to always be disabled, and seems to be geared towards files stored outside of the Photos Library bundle (like FCPX). (sigh)
