Using FCPX 10.2.2 Why am I not able to keyframe the parameters of a basic title, i.e. "Tracking" or under "Face" I cannot keyframe the opacity. I thought where you could change the values you could keyframe that value over the duration. The keyframe icon doesn't show and under the "reset" all items are grayed out. Any insight would be appreciated. Thank you.

Those have always been missing. No clue why.

don't know, if this fixes your specific needs, but a frequently given advice here is, to open 'FCPX standards' in Motion and 'free' features to the list of 'published' knobs&buttons:
see, the copy of that TrackerTitle now offers a new 'Deckkraft'/opacity slider ....
(just noticing, what a horrify sounding word Deckkraft is :silly: .... should be a band like Rammstein ..)

Hey, I love Rammstein effects in Native Instruments! I run all my Shreddage II guitars through it in Logic!

I could've sworn in v. 10.0.7 all parameters in the Text tab were keyframable. I guess I don't remember this restriction. But, thanks, everyone, for the replies to my question.

If the text parameter is available as a control in the Title inspector it will become keyframable in the Text inspector. For instance on a few titles tracking is keyframable.
