Clip goes black when applying an effect / Endless render loop

I have a customer that is running FCPX on 34 maxed out cylinder Mac Pro's with 2 ISIS 5500 chassis. Twenty of the workstations are connected via single 1 GbE and 14 are connected via dual 1 GbE.
They are running into issues where multiple editors are working from the same source material on the ISIS. They are importing the clips with leaving the media in place, so they are all accessing the same files on the same workspace. Some editors are running into issues when editing images into their Projects.
One of the issues they are running into is an endless render loop with 2 different 18 megapixel JPEGs. This issue was resolved after deleting the render file and re-rendering.
Another issue is when they try to apply a clip effect such as transform, crop, or distort, the image turns black when the play head is parked on the clip as well as during playback of the Project.
