I wonder which one is the best method.
I always used copy/paste from the media card to a folder on my HD.
Yesterday I started creating archives (media import) and all worked fine. I them imported the archive into the event and no problems...
But then I closed FPC and reopen and the clips of the last imported are missing (all red). Try to re-import and it doesn't help.
Even tried re-linking and nothing.
Please advise

What version is this?
Did the reimport from camera/archive function not work? What happened when you did this?
Are you using managed media or external media?

I used reimport from camera/archive and it actually reimported and I ended up having 2 instances on the same clip in the media browser: one with a camera symbol (which was red - ,missing video) and one that was OK.
But the clip in the timeline was linked to the one "not working". I could not re-link to the re-imported one.
please advise

Hi Schwalbach,
Everyone does this differently, so here is my import workflow for what it is worth.
I first create a camera archive from the cards and place this on a backup external hdd. My BU drive is also backed up.
The purpose of a camera archive is to preserve the complete data structure/format as created by each camera.
I then import the files, again from the card onto a separate external media drive and let FCPX convert into whatever format and settings my project is in. (You could also import from the camera archive file) I now have 2 different imports on separate drives, 1 as an archive and 1 as FCPX import files. I then backup my media drive, so I have at least 4 copies and that is before TimeMachine BU and eventually a Carbon CopyCloner clone. 6 copies, call me paranoid.
If needed I can always go to the camera archive to recreate the media files if something goes wrong.
My guess is that your workflow initially used the archive as source, but somehow FCPX didn't create a converted import file in whatever format you are using.
Hope this helps, Greg

That's strange. Normally when you have the camera icon you don't have the red icon. It shouldn't double up the media. It sounds as if the media location was changed at some point. Could you post some screen shots that show clip names?

Thank you for your posts.
It's weird indeed.
I will post some screenshots tomorrow when I get to the studio.
I have deleted most of the "bad files", but kept one just to investigate ir further.
One thing that annoys me is the fact that you can't delete or undo this actions. When you try doing that it says it is in the middle of an operation etc. Why can't we just interrupt whatever operation and undo the import/optimise etc???

You should be able to interrupt using the background processing HUD. Cmd-9.
