I want to pan slowly around a photograph

Hi

I am experimenting with the Ken Burns 'panning' utility in FCPX - it only offers the choice of panning point A to B.

I would like to be able to pan A to B, then pause, then B to C, pause, C to D and perhaps back to A at the end. Like a 'panning journey' around a photograph, zooming in on some areas and roaming past other areas, a kind of 'tour'?

I don't think Ken Burns utility can do this? Or am I missing something?

Steve Martin from Ripple training have an under 5 minute video called Ken Burns on Steroids. It looks like what you want to do.

You can also use key frame to animate the crop/crop function to do what you want.

Hi

Yes, I am a bit of a noob so all this is new to me, but looking forward to exploring key framing. Nice to know you are all out there willing to help out.

If you do a lot of this kind of work, 'FCP FX' have a nifty plugin called 'Quick and Easy Ken Burns' which we use a lot. It's easy and quick and you get a lot of control, particularly with 'ease-in / ease-outs' to create gentle starts and stops.

It costs $39 but there is a 40% discount code on their site at the moment.

Check out www.fcpfx.com

Also, 'FX Factory' has a similar, but free plugin simply called 'Pan and Zoom' I've never used it so can't say what it's like.

Steve Martin's 'Ken Burns on Steroids' is definitely worth watching too.

thanks to everyone for your ideas and suggestions. I am a bit of a beginner with FCPX, so this is a great way to learn.

Can you check the fcpfx.com link please as I am not sure it is working? Is there a working link?

Hi Barry,
Dave "Neverbroke" suggestion is a very good one.
Here is the link to the YouTube vid…

Looks like it shows you step by step everything you want to do all inside FCPX
Happy Editing :)

Hope this helps, Greg
