Hey guys! First day here and I have been looking everywhere for this effect. I have a client that wants a few of the shots almost just like this (this broken mirror fx or the other fx with lines through it)
Does anyone here know if it's possible to recreate this in fcpx and not in a third party application?
If so, does anyone have some tips on how I might do this?
Thank you guys!

Hi Fuzzy, Welcome to the forums.
You can create this effect by stacking (connected) clips and applying masks to see through one clip to another.
You can do this in FCPX or download and install 3rd party plug-ins.
If you are using the latest version of FCPX, there are some great improvements to masks/shapes that you can use.
If you are using FCPX 10.1.x then I would recommend 3rd party plugins. Alex4d has a couple of free versions, adds greater number of points and more flexible, as well as RippleTraining (I think). There are lots of others out there as well like some available at FXFactory. You may like these even with 10.2, or not.
If you have Motion, you can get even greater levels of control, compositing features and then publish to FCP.
Not hard to do.
Start with the built in masks in FCPX to see how it works.
Looks like most of the link is only using 2 stacked video clips with a few masks applied. You can stack more. You can change and manipulate each video separately.
With 10.2, you can apply multiple shapes/masks to each clip and you can key frame various parameters.
Don't have FCP open right now, by if memory serves you manipulate in the compositing section, opacity sliders in the inspector pane.
Not sure what you mean by " or the other fx with lines through it" ?? The title section for mature warning?? Title effect.
Hope this helps, Greg

This could also be created as a standardized effect for FCPX inside of Motion, if you need it over and over and over again.
