None that I can tell. FCP7 works fine as well.

One of the update features is that it fixes an issue which prevented Windows Media files from working with Quicktime. I assume they mean WMV because I don't know of any other Windows Media files. Anyway they still don't work with Quicktime so that part of the update is a lie. Another part of the update said I'd have a big ol' Beats banner in my iTunes I could click on. I see no advertising spamming my iTunes. Another lie! I want more banners and ads in my software please, don't tease me Apple!

Oh well hopefully at least I'll stop having intermittent Mail problems because sometimes it refuses to connect.

Both Windows AVI and MOV files do play in Quicktime and Qucktime 7. Both apps will do a conversion first on the files and then offer an option to save the files as MOV upon closing the video. Movie Inspector in QT7 correctly shows the windows media and audio codec information.

BEATS is a streaming radio service found under the radio tab in iTunes and is available with the latest 10.10.5 release/

UPDATE:

I realise now that you were referring to the OSX version; not the fCP X version.

Doh!

....

I just purchased FCP X 10.2.1 which I am loving after only having access to 10.1.5 on my old iMac.

I have just checked Apple Store and cannot see any update - other than the supplemental one - is that the one you are referring to?

The latest version of FCPX 10.2.1 this thread is about if the latest version of Yosemite 10.10.5 has had any effect on FCPX. A little confusing. ;)

Yes, meant to say that this thread is about OS 10.10.5. NOT a new version of FC.

I have a project that is wrapping up shortly and I think I'll wait till then to update.

Two issues after update: Rendered clips does not stick after restarting FCPX, slower sharing to master file. I think I have found out what causes this. In my project I am using MLut effects on every clip. Opened another project without this effects and rendered the whole timeline and after restart FCPX the rendered files showed and sharing was much faster.

Sounds promising! Quite excited about the El Cap, except for the name. How could they move away from big cats without having a Sabretooth version? Maybe marketing didn't think an extinct species was the best thing? ;)

PS - So far so good here with OSX 10.10.5 / FCPX 10.2.1...

How does the 10.10.5 update work with avi files? So far none of the avi files I have open or play under both versions of Quicktime....I thought this update was going to fix that... :(

Yes it does the conversion, which takes a lifetime to convert, VLC is instant, and only after much investigation, I found I had to install Perian to make Quicktime 10 play after conversion avi files.

This is simply not good enough for software such as Quicktime, it should be open-play without the 2 hour conversion.

I tested a 6 minute AVI file and a 5 minute WMV file and the conversion was pretty quick. The files played immediately after that with no third party plugin required. Perhaps if you're trying to load a 1 hour windows media file the conversion would take considerably longer but I wouldn't think hours. Perian is an outdated component for most recent Mac OS's. It was last working on Lion and Perian confirms it might or might not work with Mountain Lion 10.8 . It was developed as a QuickTime component but I don't believe it ever fully supported the AV foundation being used in current Mac operating systems. Perian stopped support after the last release for Lion and discontinued development. The fact that you have it installed on current OS might be causing issues with many things. I read on a few forums back in the days of Mountain Lion that it was recommended to be removed from Mac OS.

I did what the Apple support page told me to do. I tried to play an avi file using Quicktime 10, it said it could not, there was 2 options, tell me more, or cancel.

Safari launched with a small section with DIVX, so I followed the link, and Perian was the only option presented, so I installed it, and yes it works, it takes a long time to convert, the test file was 42 min long, and it took about 20 min to convert.

AVI is older than Noah and the Ark, from what I understand, this non playback on OS is a result of a long standing feud between Microsoft and Apple, if that is the case, then time has passed to allow this stupid technology to become public domain.

If VLC can play natively, then quicktime should as well, not be subject to insane conversions...After all AVI is just a wrapper...How did vlc get it right and the brains at Apple not?

www.apple.com/quicktime/resources/compon...63&csubtype=58564944

That was the page that was launched after using QT10

UPDATE.....
It seems quicktime 7 plays natively, Quicktime 10 needs conversion...Strange!

This is probably because you have Perian installed which works with QT7 but does not with QT 10 as far as I know. Even so, Perian might be best removed from your system as discussed earlier.

Yeah, let's work with a 1992 wrapper that was always wonky and super limited.

So what codec is inside of these AVI files? That info would help a lot, also.

Who produces AVI's anymore? I've not touched one in a decade.

FFMPEGX should convert it just fine, which I'd do immediately if someone handed me an AVI file.
