Do I need ProRes for better output quality?

Hi, I edited a 2 minute video importing directly from GoPro native format into FCPX timeline. By doing this way, I don't think the video was transcoded to ProRes. Since everything was done in native format, if I export the movie, is there any quality loss compared to if I had done everything in ProRes?

Is there a way I can replace every clip in timeline with a ProRes version without having to edit it all over again?

Thank you so much

Yan

There is no loss in quality in not optimizing your media.

If you want to replace it all with ProRes for some reason (and there are several), in the Browser, Select All, right-click, Transcode and select Optimize. Then you have a Library bundle containing both original and optimized duplicates.

You can, if you wanted to, select the Library and go to the File menu, to Delete All Generated Library Files and select Optimized and/or Proxy to delete them. Then you're back to only working with original media.

ProRes comes with quality loss and large file size (requires much more space). If your source GoPro format just works, it's a good choice to stay with that format.

"ProRes comes with quality loss and large file size (requires much more space)."

There is absolutely no quality loss with ProRes, but yes, larger file sizes because it is much less compressed. ProRes Proxy is one quarter resolution quality (same frame size), and not meant for use with output files. But no, ProRes stands up and is lossless.
