Compressor to Youtube question. was created by Jonathan Levin
Hi all.
I am doing a test upload to YouTube to see how my project will look and make any adjustments in FC after that.
I exported a Master file 1920x1080 Pro Res 422 file. Approx size 17GB, as expected.
I then opened Compressor, added the master file and dragged the the stock YouTube setting to the batch.
That settings 720p and in the inspector says "Up to 1280x720 px Automatic FPS. Since my file was originally 1920x1080, I went in and changed Frame Size to "Up to 1920x1080" since I think that YouTube will now be able to show HD up to 1080.
Is this right, or should I have in fact just left things where they were? My video is 17 minutes long. Compressor is now at one hour and counting using my method above.
Any advice?
Jonathan

Hi, Jonathon. You are correct that you'll need to change the frame size to 1920x1080 in order for YouTube to offer a 1080 playback view. If you upload at 1280x720, then 720p HD will be the highest HD setting YouTube will offer in the player. Also choose the highest bitrate you can as YouTube will crunch that down significantly when your file is processed.

Thanks so much for replying dgwvideo!
Would you be willing to share your settings for 1080 video in Compressor that you have had success with and I'll make a custom pre-set for that.
Odd that there is no 1080 option in Compressor....
Thanks again for your help.

Jonathan,
I actually use Sorenson Squeeze Pro for all my online encodes but I'll send you settings from Compressor that I have used in the past when I get back to the studio later today.

Jonathan,
I have attached a zip file that contains a compressor droplet as well as three main screen grabs from Compressor showing what settings we have used in the past for video, audio and general settings. The screen grabs are the settings for the included droplet. Depending on your footage, you may need to adjust some parameters, frame rate, etc. and apply any antialiasing detail you might require. Also, we have generally used a bitrate of 12,000 for Youtube uploads, although for 29.97 fps you could go as low as 8000 according to Youtube. We prefer the higher rate.
As I mentioned, Squeeze is what we use and allows for more control of parameters than compressor (setting B frames, etc.) but we have had success with Compressor using these settings. Hope it helps you.
