Audio synchronization after cutting

Audio synchronization after cutting was created by robertdee
Hi,
I have a couple of hours of material for a corporate interview project shot with a DSLR and a backup HDV camera (used only for good sound). I want to do the rough cut first with the DSLR footage and then sync the clips on the timeline afterwards to pull the audio off the second camera. Can anyone tell me the workflow for this or if I am misunderstanding it - I know you can sync two clips in the browser but I want to make the edit first rather than sync a lot of clips that are going to be redundant by the end of the edit.
Any suggestions?

I'd sync them in the Browser first. It will make Compound clips you can keyword, so you have access to only the sync'ed clips to start with. Seems you'd work faster, rather than back tracking to find and match up stuff after the fact.

Cheers Ben,
After about 8 hours of syncing after the edit, I think you are right.
It still annoys me, however. I'm trying to sort out for the second edit on the job and syncing beforehand but what bugs me enormously is that if I have subclips (or keyworded master clips) which I have separated for different edits and I synchronize those, it doesn't maintain the keywords so I have to search for them in the mass of all the clips. Dumb. Apple need to understand that we aren't all called "randy" and edit differently according to our needs.

Every NLE forces you into certain workflows. FCP X (at this point) assumes you're going to sync your clips first, and edit with the sync'ed clips, then keyword / tag them after for working with. I agree with this workflow. I'm editing with my sync'ed clips, not with the raw clips that have no video or bad audio separately.

If I interview Brian and Stacey about polar bears and meerkats, I want to separate my movs into polar bear and meerkat categories before syncing them. Then, when syncing, I want my polar bear syncs to be metatagged with the same polar bear tag as the clips I've synced so they show up in the same event/folder, rather than in the mass of footage I have not had time to organise on the shoot when getting the public's view on animals in the zoo.
I have not made any films about people's opinion of polar bears and meerkats but it works as an example.

I'd put each in its own Event maybe. It is a pain that a synced clip does not inherit the keywords as its parent clips, but that's what the feedback page is for (Final Cut Pro menu).
For now, when I sync clips, when done they all have the word Compound in the name. I do a search for Compound, then use my keyboard shortcut to keyword them.

Aaah. Cheers for that. Helpful tips - particularly about the search for 'compound' - I tried searching for 'synchronized' and wasn't having any luck.
