How to open old Events in Library?

Hope this is just me being silly.

I have a drive with a lot of old Projects and Events dating from 2013.

In finder I can see the Events and Projects are still there.

However I can't open them in FCPX now through the Library. Is there someway to update them to work with Libraries? I had thought FCPX automatically did this the first time you connected a drive?

I attach some screenshots:

Here are all the files intact on the drive in Finder:

When I try to open them through FCPX I don't see them listed:

Hey Simon,

The easiest way to do this:

Connect your drive and in FCP X choose File > Update Project and Events.
You will get a window where you can choose between "Locate" and "Update All". Choose "Update All".
A new Library will be created on the hard drive. This Library will contain all the Events that are stored inside your Final Cut Events folder, and all the Projects that are stored inside the Final Cut Projects folder on that drive.

Once everything is inside the new Library you can use the Move command to move specific Events and their associated Projects into new specific Libraries if you wish to do so.

Ah Ronny, thanks that should do it. I am just finishing an edit and then will do this once its finished. Thanks again.

Hey while I have you; one quick other question.

I have a bunch of old projects and events on hard drives that I had done for free for people. The time has come for me to clear them out. I usually keep my commercial projects on the hard drives just in case. But I don't want to continue keeping 1000's of gb's of projects I had done for free or for favours.

I want to give all of those people the opportunity to transfer the footage and project data onto their own hard drives if they want to keep it for future reference.

What is the best way to do this (to transfer the whole project including the event / project data).

Then is there any particular best way to delete the projects entirely from FCPX?

The best way is to put every production inside a separate managed Library using the Consolidate command. Then you just need to move that Library onto the client's external drive and delete it from your own drive.
