Documentary edited in FCPX to be screened - question regarding projection

Hello FCP.co friends,

I'll screen my documentary soon in the theatres, edited in FCPX. It's been almost 3 years of ingesting footage, cutting, color correction, audio treatment, all inside FCPX.

But my question is about the projection itself. I don't have the time to do a DCP (maybe will try DCPBuilder just to test it), so I'll go to rMBP 2015 and HDMI to the theatre projector.

The question is: Should I put the MOV ProRes 422 file in my rMBP 2015 SSD and play it from there? Or should I put on an external hard drive (in this case, it is a FW800 Iomega or a Samsung usb3.0)?

Please note that the file is somewhat 90GB.

Any advices will be highly appreciate.

The FireWire drive is the slowest of the three you mentioned, so I would probably avoid that. Either the external USB 3 or the SSD should have no problems. I would make sure your rMBP is not running any other apps at the time of projection and my preference would be to run the movie from the SSD if you have sufficient space (including 15% free space overhead on the drive).

Agreed, that's how I've always done it.
