Hi,
I finally found this old footage I was looking for. Found it on a backup drive that I used sometime ago for time machine backups.
I can view all the photos and videos with iphoto. I can even open the photos just fine, but when I click to open a video I get the following error:

"The operation couldn't b completed
OSStatus error -54.)"

How can I fix this?
Can anyone help?
thanks

You can open the video in iPhoto, but not in the QT player? How about Streamclip?

I don't know if this will help but have you tried to open it with a different app like VLC? Am I right in assuming you have restored the Time Machine backup before trying to play it?

That doesn't look like a video file. It should show a controller at the bottom. It may just a poster frame image.

Squamish ed,
The problem is that I can't get to the file in finder. For the photos of the same footage, I do the obvious. In iPhotos I choose reveal in finder and there it is. But for he videos, If I double click to play I get the error, if I choose reveal in finder it opens finder and points me to the iphoto library file.
I am not familiar with time machine. Do I have to restore first? How?
I never liked the way iphoto manages the photos (inside a single library). Can't see the advantages...

Tom, iphoto shows it as a video file when showing all the thumbnails. And as I said, all the thumbnail photos open just fine, but to the videos...;-(

Can you do a manual search for all .mov files in finder?

If you didn't bring the file back from Time Machine using its restore function, just dragged it out of the folder structure it's possible there is a permissions problem.

Try right-clicking on the iPhoto library and like in FCP dig into the bundle to find the movie. Drag it out of the iPhoto folder structure and check its permissions and if you can open it.

Schwalbach, with your old HD connected go into Time Machine and go back to the file you want. Select it and a Restore option will appear on screen. Click it and the file should be restored.
