having trouble with title editing on a Macbook Retina, any idea of why?

Hey all,
I picked up a 15 inch Macbook Retina with a 2.5Ghz i7, specifically to do video processing. I figured that would be more than enough power to do general editing -- I shoot news documentary type of pieces.
For some reason, I'm having a ton of trouble editing titles on FCPX. Simple build in/outs are so choppy that I can't even watch them run smoothly, and when I look at the activity monitor it's taking over 100 percent of my CPU for FCPX to display and process that operation. I mean that's not actually a complex process, has anyone else ran into this problem? I went into the Apple store and they said that my hardware was fine, I actually did a full OS reboot to try and fix this, but I'm still not able to smoothly edit opening credits that fade in and out.
Help would be very highly appreciated. Thanks.
