I have finished filming and editing a service and i need to burn it down to a dvd. That is what the client wants. So anyhow, when 'Exporting' straight to DVD and/or through Disk Util, everything comes our grainy and pixilated.
The project is 50 minuted long.

I'm still fairly new at this editing life, but I Love IT!!!
Im so close to done!!! Please, Please, Please

Thank

Hi Steven, welcome to the forum.

It's very hard to tell you why your DVD looks grainy and pixelated unless you provide some more information.

Have you played the DVD in an actual DVD player on a television set and does that image look grainy and pixelated?

If the answer is yes:

- Does your video look perfect when you play the timeline in FCP X?
- Does your video look perfect when you export your timeline as a master file and you play the exported file in QT player?

If the answer to both questions is yes:

- Open your master file with QT Player, make sure the playback window is set to actual size and make a screenshot of the image. Post the screenshot here so we can see what the original video looks like.

- Open your DVD file with VLC Player, make sure the playback window is set to actual size and make a screenshot of the image. Post the screenshot here so we can see what the problem really is.

Hey Ronnie! Thank you for you response to post.
Ok, I have played the DVD on 2 separate PC and on my PS3. Trying to find a DVD player...lol
Maybe because the picture is so clean I'm not use it! LOL
But, you know how the project looks when it's rendering while trying to view it, thats what it looks like on the DVD. just a little fuzzy. Graphics and all.

Yes to both questions. Looks great in both places

What is VLC Player? sorry new to this.
Is there away to burnt he Master file to the DVD?

Thanks again

Olay, thank you for the information. It is quite normal to see some more softness on the image when you convert an HD original to a highly compressed DVD. But it's impossible to tell you if your image is really problematic unless we can actually see the it.

You can download VLC player here (it's free): www.videolan.org/vlc/

Open the DVD with VLC player and make sure the viewer image is set to Normal (CMD+1). Then play the DVD and make a screenshot (SHIFT+CMD+4) of the viewer, preferably at a place where you find that the image is really problematic. Then post the scree, shot here.

The reason why you need to use VLC and not Apple's DVD player is that Apple prevents making screenshots of its DVD Player window.

Hi MSP
Not sure if you resolved this yet, please post back.
As Ronny says post some screen shots.
Add to that a screen shot of a scope showing of RGB parade for your worst clip. Do you have lots of "illegal" levels like super whites above 100% or below 0%? With the scope open, skim or play your project, lots of levels over 100%? If so you will need to do some color correction.
What is the format and resolution of the original media?
Are you creating the DVD using the "Share" menu item in FCPX?
What version of FCPX?
OS version?

Hope this helps, Greg
