720i ?

Hey!

I'm editing some footage not shot by me for a change... I don't know what camera is shot with but it says 1920x10080 | 25i in FCPX... I want to deliver in 720 so I can crop/reposition a bit and so. But there's no 720i setting. I never work with interlaced formats. Can I just drop it into a 720p timeline and hope for the best?

That's it. You don't have to hope. Interlacing is the curse of mankind perpetuated by Sony to keep up TV sales.

One of the curses of the digital era, TOO MANY FLAVORS!!! Back in the day you had 3, PAL, NTSC and rare SECAM!! Now we have so many, it is impossible to list them all...

I long for the day when there is 1 universal standard, we shoot in this standard, we edit in 1 of 2 version, full or proxy of this universal standard, we share/broadcast on this standard, it will mean less stress on hardware, a common standard...

Why is it no matter if you drive in the USA, the UK, the Far East, all cars have the same pedal standard, left-clutch, middle-brake, right-accelerator, it works, 100%, no issues, but then the indicator/windscreen wiper controls are not universal..So you hire a car, and for 3 days you indicate left turn by first wiping the windows, swear loudly, then find the right control, then 5 seconds later do the same mistake....The pedals are right, why not indicator/windscreen wipers???

So the same should be for editing/broadcasting of video media, 1 standard!!!!!

best to my knowledge, there's no 720i in the standards.
720 comes only in 24p, 25p, 30p, 50p, 60p
1080 offers some i versions

But I'm a 101% with Tom:
interlaced is a pest; sooner or later you run into 'steps issues' ...

Karsten nails it ! 720 is always progressive, 1080 can be either progressive or (Tom's favorite) i.

There are a few things that are worse, but it's up there with the worst of them, for sure! :lol:
