Just noticed that the best keyer plugin (IMHO) just got a nice update - Hawaiki Keyer v2

I agree, this keyer is very nice. I just tried the trial version and am definitely considering purchasing it.

Can't be beat, even by dedicated apps that are multiples of it's price. Also if, god forbid, you need to use Premiere or AE it'll work there too, and arguably does a much better job than the built in solutions in those apps too.

I've had the opportunity to use a number of keying solutions (FCPX internal keyer, the PHYX Keyer and Hawaiki Keyer v1 plugins, AE, Smoke, etc.) on some commercial projects recently and I have to say that the Hawaiki Keyer was really impressive. FCPX's internal keyer effect does a decent job getting you in the ballpark straight out of the box but I have found that its controls lack sensitivity when dialing in refinements - especially to problematic green screen shots.
Now, Hawaiki Keyer version 2 offers a wide array of controls and increases the sensitivity in ways that surpass any other tool for this type of composite work. I've seen some comparison shots on plysat's FCPX Babbling site of Hawaiki and other keyers but those are all version 1 I think. Hawaii Keyer version 2 is even better. What a great tool.

Well put, thinkfilm. We did a few local political candidate green screen ads this past election season using strictly FCPX keying. We got decent results but I have since tried Hawaiki just yesterday on those same green screens and was able to get even better results with a lot less fiddling. Quicker and better results for sure.

That sounds good. What would you say are the advantages over PHYX which I already own? Thanks!

Off the top of my head, I'd say one thing that I really like and find very helpful in Hawaiki Keyer are the multiple viewing modes it offers when constructing a keyable matte - especially the Analysis mode. That's really best experienced by trying out the free trial. I also think that Hawaiki Keyer's adjustment controls are more intuitive ( I understand what they are doing) and are more sensitive when changing things in small increments than what PHYX offers - YMMV. By the way, I own PHYX too and I like it.
Also, it's convenient that all the ancillary functions (Despill, Lightwrap, etc,) which PHYX offers that you have to add as separate effects are wrapped into one panel in Hawaiki Keyer.
