According to Macobserver only those graphic card will support Metal (El Capitan)
Nvidia GeForce GTX 400 series and newer
Intel HD4000 and newer (Ivy Bridge or newer)
AMD HD7000 and newer
If true many can forget the performance boost. Even those who have nMP. I have nMP with AMD FirePro D500 3072 MB, so I am out of luck if this is true.

I'm sure we'll see more graphics cards listed as the beta version develops and matures.

I'm running this very first beta version, full of bugs and issue, but this is the FIRST "beta" copy. I fully expect it to be very far from finished. I'd wait a couple months before getting worried about what Macs will and won't support Metal totally. Baby steps...

Apple stated in the Metal developers sessions that Metal will be supported on all Macs since 2012.
It will also be supported in older Macs, especially the MPs due to upgraded GPUs. Some older iMacs/MBP also.
There may or may not be partial support for some GPUs in Metal functionalities, we'll have to wait and see.
Check out here around 8:40… developer.apple.com/videos/wwdc/2015/?id=603
Haven't had time to watch all the developer vids yet.
What I have seen in articles/documentation is pretty impressive for Metal.
Apple also states that Metal will be a systemwide implementation, interesting. Programs will still have to be updated to take advantage of the new APIs.
Once FCPX/Motion are updated, I think that we will see the end of SBB
Hey, I'm entitled to dream aren't I?
Pixelmator on iOS has implemented Metal, so won't be too surprised if that is not coming in the fall too.
Hope this helps, Greg

That is good news Vid, and now my mood is up again, and thank you for this comment. It would have been a unbelievable decision not to include all Mac Pro Late 2013

The mac pro video card is based on the 7000 series listsed.
The d300, d500, d700 use the Tahiti GPU, same as the firepro, the R9 280, and the 7970. in fact, in my hackintosh, the R9 280x shows up as AMD Radeon HD 7xxx 3072 MB.

Í am a bit confused, are you saying that all, d300 d500, d700 are supported ? Is it this waht you mean. ? I was confused about the 7000
AMD FirePro W7000 is the D300 on Mac
AMD FirePro W8000 is the D500 on Mac
AMD FirePro W9000 is the D700 on Mac
AMD FirePro W7000 is the D300 on Mac
AMD FirePro W8000 is the D500 on Mac
AMD FirePro W9000 is the D700 on Mac

Don't worry, you'll be good to go.
The article you linked to is poorly written/researched.
Your PC comparison is somewhat correct with lots of not really.
Apple has cards built to their specifications, therefore the corresponding PC cards are based on the same chips/architecture, but Apple alters the speeds, vram, and many other factors along with the board layout and connections.
But yes what you said is mostly correct except the d500 really is somewhat between an 7000 and a 8000. None of the Apple FirePros are quite the same as the PC versions.
However, the Apple drivers serves all of the above and the PC equivalents, so yes as thefluentone says his Hackintosh will work with the PC cards on Mac OS.
Fear not, Apple has not orphaned your GPU!
I think additional cards(Mac models) will be either fully supported or partially supported. It is early yet.
Apps will have to be rewritten to take advantage of Metal, so there is that too.
I'm looking forward to seeing what benefits Metal brings to Macs.
Hope this helps, Greg

Thank you so much Greg for this clarification, you have convinced me, not to worry anymore about this
As you I look forward to see what the Metal will actually do. I am only a dedicated hobbyist but I have a huge interest what is going on with FCPX in the future.
Best regards
Makki.
