Anyone know if there are other 2D 'Projection' options out there?

I saw this plug in for FCPX:

store.pixelfilmstudios.com/plugin/plugin-projection

It would have helped with a music video concept we were going to do, and I was going to buy it until I realised it only works with 10.1.2.

Are there other similar options out there? Thanks!

This is a striped down version of the "photoshop/after effects" vanishing point.

My workflow would be:

1 - Edit photos with basic motion and basic text (just as reference for timing) inside FCPX.

2 - Send project to AE via ClipExporter2

3 - Do all the compositing in AE

4 - Export ProRes or uncompressed from AE and, if needed, finish inside FCPX (useful if you export the video in more than one master comp or if you have to make a change and don't want to render again all)

Thanks Gabba, I don't have Photoshop or After Effects, but its good to know this is a technique.

Anyhow, it seems that there was a typo on their website because it works with 10.2.1 (not 10.1.2), so I got it and its a pretty neat effect that does what it says on the tin.

Presumably there is someway to do this manually in Motion, but the plug in seems to do the trick for now.

I believe I've heard bad things about Pixel Film. Can these guys be trusted?

Well I have got a few of their plug ins and they all work pretty well. They seem legit; payment through Paypal so its secure. Most of their plug ins have accompanying tutorial videos which is handy to get you started, and they literally have a plug in for every conceivable scenario.

Well, they do have this bad history of stealing, you know? Just google PFS and motionVFX to find out more. That's why lots of people don't buy from PFS anymore. I own some of their older stuff and have to say that it not really impressed me. Cheap prices, yes. But pretty intense on the processor and a bit clunky to handle. This plus the bad stories makes me stay away from them nowadays.

Ah yes, ah I remember that story now; claimed they had bought some of their dust overlays and reused them for heir own plug ins. That was PFS? Oh well. Perhaps they learned their lesson, and it looks like the dust has settled now though (*cough!).

I have bought plug ins from mVFX, Coremelt, Red Giant, Skippor, FCPEffects, Crumplepop, as wells as PFS. Of all of those PFS seems to have the biggest collection (by far), though not as professionally designed as the likes of Red Giant.

Still when I'm on a deadline for a specific effect I'll buy whatever seems to work best, and PFS was the only one out there offering that specific one.
