BTW- I was told that even though FCP X supports the use of PS and TIFF layered files, they apparently make no claim that when you work on a master PS file it will update in FCP. So I guess if it was working on occasion, maybe we were lucky.
Here is how to do it:
Assuming you have already imported a layered PS into a library, and have that image in a project. Go to original PS file and make some changes to a layer(s). Save.
No go back to FCP and you may get lucky and the changed followed through. If not, try this:
Delete the media from the browser, but leave your clip of that image in the project. Next re-import the same PS file again. Finally, drag the file from the browser ON TOP of the clip in the Project. You will get a short list of options. Try Replace first. You should have a new updated version of that PS image with new changes.
I just started playing around with this. I also did the same thing with a photo clip in the project with transitions and that seemed to work if I used Replace with Retiming option.
Let us know how this works for you.

Tom Wolsky wrote: You can update PSD files in Photoshop, and they will work in FCP. This has worked the same going back to legacy FCP. The problem is what changes will work. A lot of what Photoshop can do is vector based and that simply will not translate. Change layer structure will not translate. Adding Photoshop effects will not translate unless made into a smart object. As long as you keep the layer structure and rasterize what you do in Photoshop it will update in FCP.
