Does anyone have any idea how to get the metadata from audio files recorded on a Sound Devices mixer/recorder to show up in FCP X.
I have specific names for inputs/tracks on the recorder and they show up on the SD report, but the audio in FCP imports the channel names mono 1, mono 2, mono 3, and so on. I'm recording Wav Poly files if that is helpful.
You will be my new hero if you can help me figure this out!

It´s probably too late but you can get your audio metadata from wav files into FCPX using Sync-N-Link X
Just pretend you sync audio and video and don´t include any video.
The resulting XML will have the tracks named in the right way.
Don´t forget to alter the channel configuration before doing that, otherwise you will get crazy stereo tracks...

Hi Nils.
Thanks for that. I have looked into Sync and Link and it does look like it would do what I am looking for, but the price of the app is just out of reach for me. I think at this point it might just be easier to create the sound report from Sound Devices and then just manually add the names of the tracks.
But thanks for reviving an almost year old thread

So this is now working as of 10.3!!! Or it could have been the last couple of firmware updates (4.0.1) for my SD 633 mixer. Or both.
Either way, I am really happy to see my Poly Wav files with my MixL-R and properly named ISO tracks that were set up on the mixer. This will make life better.
In addition, I noticed now that when I go to sync video with external audio, FCP X automatically disables the storyline audio...sweeeet.

It´s new with 10.3
And in the Sync dialogue you can now choose to disable "audio in AV clips"
Very nice indeed!

Nils.
I was working on a real quick project for a friend and I didn't even notice the disable audio, until now. Glad it is on by default.
It almost seems that all the "Expand Audio..." functions seem to do what they were intended to. And it looks like the Break Audio Apart or whatever that god-awfull command was is now gone!

And BTW- I noticed that if you turn on clip angles and clip roles in Clip appearance for the timeline, the metadata also shows up as to what was set on the mixer. Maybe I said that already.
