Rendering a selected range with Control-R not working?

Hi All. I'm trying to figure out how to render just a specific range of my timeline (for quick testing), and I can't figure out how to do it. I read that Control-R should do it after a range is selected, but it does not work (nor does command r, option r, or shift r) — does anyone know the secret sauce? Thanks.

What version are you using? What happens when you use Control-R? Try trashing prefs.

I'm using 10.2. When I try it I get the "you can't do that" chirp sound. Trashing prefs doesn't change anything. It's also worth noting that if I try control-shift-r to trigger ALL rendering; that does work.

It's working for me in 10.2.1.

To state the obvious, but you never know; be sure the Timeline pane is active (Cmd-2).
Open Commands > Customize, and verify the command has not been changed or something.
