Video Field Dominance in version 10.2 was created by AppleGuru
It seems there is no way to change the Video Field Dominance in FCPX 10.2.
How would we go about deinterlacing the footage?
Thank you

I only wish I could do this on a clip by clip basis in the timeline. For example two different parts of the same footage having different field dominance. But if you set one, you set it on all from that particular asset. That's one way FCP7 towers over FCPX in what I do. For most people this is a non-issue.

In X this is handled per clip.

Not on the timeline it isn't. Let's say I only have one video file in my entire project for simplicity of argument. I take a portion of it and put it on the timeline. I take a different portion of that same video and put it on the timeline as well. I cannot have both clips on the timeline have a different field order.

Per master clip, I should have specified.
But how does one long shot become both interlaced and progressive? Or what would be the purpose? I guess I've never encountered a need to do that, can't imagine one. But sounds interesting.

Exactly, most people would never be bothered by it.
I edit a video game show that is in 1080 30p. Many videogames are 240p which are recorded as 480i. Usually I just let one field display as the other field is the same information, just 1/60th of a second later. When some characters get hit, they flash on and off rapidly at 60fps to fake transparency during the temporary invincible period that occurs when a character is damaged. . So the video would show the character disappear entirely for a second or two or not disappear at all. I'd like the be able to literally blade the clip where he disappears and where he stops flashing and change field dominance for just that part. I can do this in FCP7. What I do there is change it to NONE (ie progressive) so that both fields show. Then I apply Flicker Filter at the MAX setting so the character appears transparent. It works quite well. The current version of Premiere can also do this. The only way to do this in FCPX is to have 2 or 3 copies of the same Master Clip, one set for each field dominance. Then put them where you need them to be and this would be a huge pain in the ass.
I'd like to tell Apple about this but I highly doubt they'd care AT ALL.
