Film look in an interlaced world was created by Bluebicycle
Hi
I'm cutting a couple of inserts to go into an interlaced 1080 show for TV. The intention was to have all this "film" material shot at 25p to set it apart from the general Event coverage. As usual, though the shoot has gone wrong, and I have a mixture of 25p and 50i rushes for these short films.
I could simply make a 25p Project for each film and export/re-import, but doesn't that just drop a field, i.e. halve the vertical resolution, or is FCPX cleverer than that?
the whole thing ends up on an interlaced timeline for TX.
Avid has a Timewarp preset called "Fluid Film Progressive" which does a superb job of de-interlacing clips to give an interpolated 25p temporal jerky look, we all love for inserts. (It takes an age to render though, rendering it unusable mostly) Can FCP do the same with it's Optical Flow, if so how?
The best solution for me would be to work with interlaced Projects throughout and have a segment filter/fX to create 2 new fields but with no temporal shift, i.e. film look,

Maybe I've answered my own question. Cut the pieces in FCP interlaced. Then export and import to Avid and render out with "Fluid Film Progressive Effect added, to the 50i stuff.
