Hey everyone,

I am shooting with a Canon XA10 and am having a hard time converting the files into something that looks nice on FCPX. Using an HD Converter to convert the files from MTS (which appears to be the default file setting on the Canon) to .dv or .mov, which are what FCPX recognizes, the files get grainy and it looks like they haven't been rendered properly or something. Does anyone know how to correct this problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I believe the camera shoots in AVCHD, which can be imported directly into FCP from the card.

If the camera in question does record in AVCHD, indeed FCP X can work directly with the clips. Although cataloging, maintaining and archiving .MTS clips and all the supporting ancillary files can be a pain.

I really like ClipWrap. It's a wonderful utility that can re-wrap the .MTS files (not convert or recode the clips) into .mov files. You can even rename the clips in the conversion process. There is zero attracting or other disruptions in image quality. You can also convert to the various flavors of Apple ProRes as well as optimize the clips for FCP X, Premier Pro and Avid.

ClipWrap is available on the Mac App Store ($50) ... even though it's a bit pricey .... It's one of the best investments I ever made. Saves me a ton of time and keeps my clips in a more manageable form factor.
