hi all

i'm working on a simple music-clip and try to fit my videos to the music. no problem so far. but as you can see on my screenshot all the clips without audio are displaying a huge empty blue area - a total waste of space

is there a way to disable that but keep the main audio track visible?

You can change the clip appearance and size in by clicking the button in the lower right of the project timeline window.

yes sure... but if i disable waveform also the waveform for the audio is gone

i mean why is FCP-X keeping space for audio in the video-clips if there's none?

i'd like to have this (photoshopped) - but it seems not possible

Use Roles in the Timeline index to minimise the Video Track:

that's all not helpful... a big part of my screen is wasted for useless information

i tested sony catalyst today ... when i choose for clip the video function it only shows (and uses video), i can choose between audio and both

however i wrote Apple a feedback with this feature enhancement... who knows maybe they don't ignore it :)

Why is using roles not helpful for this? It's a very underestimated but super helpful feature. You can establish your own rolls and then minimize all the unneeded clutter with one click. Love it!

Ah, I see, you want the thumbnails, right? Is there a muted audio track in your clips? Not sure if detaching and deleting audio will make a difference. Not at my mac now but that might be worth a try.

the thing with the roles can be helpful ... but in this case i'm loosing the overview without the thumbnails

none of my video clips have any audio .. and so i can't detach it

The more I think about it, the more I'd like an option to turn on waveforms for selected files only. And yes, the ability to decrease clip height by not showing audio that you don't need to see is really tempting. Didn't bother me that much before (I mostly bring stuff down into my primary) but now that it started going round in my head... :)

Detaching the audio won't make a difference. The video-only clip still assigns a large amount of real estate for information that isn't there.

I've found the best way to get results from Apple is to keep telling them of the issue. Once or twice a week outta do it.

Careful what you wish for ... I followed that procedure for almost two years requesting certain features for Aperture 3 ... Look where that got me ... ;)
