audio problem was created by robertellx
I am using FCP 10.0.8 on a macbook pro. I have having difficulties importing an audio file into a project. The audio file is on a cd. its format is AIFF-c. .I first dragged the audio to my desktop and then imported it into my event. When playing in the timeline the soundtrack drops out and then come back in later. I was given the suggestion to first import into iTunes and then drag that file to the desktop and import it. In both cases the same drop out occurred. the original soundtrack has been verified to be complete so it isn't that. Does anyone have any idea why this is happening and any suggestions?
Thank you,
Robert

That is what we call a "Red Book" file, not a standard AIFF computer file. It is specific to CDs. Don't use it in an NLE or DAW app. Convert it to a standard AIFF or WAV file first. This can be done in Compressor. I don't know if iTunes still does AIFF conversions, I seem to recal it doesn't. It'll create am MP3 file, with lowered fidelity. The free app Audacity can convert to standard AIFF files, too.

iTunes will still create high quality AIFF files. Songs can be control clicked and selected to create AAC versions or AIFF versions depending on what format was imported. The import settings can be set to create AIFF.
