Making New Video from Preview

I'm not really sure how best to describe what I'm wanting to do but I'll give it a try anyway ;) .

Basically, I want to create some short video clips for uploading onto YouTube where I am discussing the actions of individuals in the videos. When I'm previewing a clip in FCPX, I can drag the red playhead across that clip to find an piece of action that I want to highlight, typically just a couple of seconds. I want to be able to slowly move through that sequence, maybe dragging the playhead back and forth to emphasise the action I'm discussing - the moment when something significant is happening in a scene. I would then record a separate narrative to talk about what is being viewed.

If you imagine me doing that in front of the computer while giving a live presentation, dragging the playhead over a segment of action and being able to pause and repeat to illustrate my point while talking - that is how I would like my finished video to appear. I guess in some ways its a bit like a screencast of the preview window in FCPX?

If anyone knows a good way of achieving this, that would be really helpful. Maybe FCPX is not the best software for this kind of task?

Thanks in advance.

Robert

A screen capture sounds exactly what you need to do. Screenflow or Camtasua are excellent for this. Or you can even use the QuickTime player to make a screen recording.
