Can we keyframe the new #d Text in FCPX?

I wanted to keyframe some of the new 3D text, to have it rotate away. I don't see any parameters in Video Properties, and after a quick look I can't seem to find anything in the Video Properties. When you rotate things along the new X,Y and Z axis I noticed in the top left some "ROT" parameters.

Are these parameters anywhere else? Can they be keyframe or manually input?

Apple thought adding the camera parameters to the 3D text would eat up too much space in the inspector (yes, I was told that directly) and they decided to add it later, or let users add it themselves. So although you have the OSC, you have no keyframing, by default. But you can change that!

As I explain in my FCPX 10.2 review , right click the template in the titles browser, Open In Motion. Go to the Inspector and publish the Position and Rotation parameters (actually, you only need to publish the Rotation parameters), and only for the Text layer (not the group or any other layer). Save, you're good to go.

Ben, if someone at Apple told you that, not sure I am convinced they actually did, I have to take you on your word here, that makes zero sense.

In every case in the inspector, there is a show/hide option. So how could it eat up space? So no I do not think space is the reason the camera parameters are missing, it is that for the 10.2 launch it was not ready. maybe for 10.2.3 or later...

Yes Justine, I just made that all up for whatever the hell reason I would do such a thing, which would make no sense. Really, you're going to question my honesty and attack me? Yeah, right... It makes TONS of sense, Justine.

Too many collapsable sections in the Inspector would indeed start to get overwhelming. Too much to keep track of. I'd prefer they don't put a kazillion sections stacked up forever in the Inspector, myself. There are limits to what can be coded efficiently and maintain a pleasant and easy user experience.

And, much more goes on in corporate decision making than you can possibly imagine, Justine. Please don't question my integrity or my sources any longer. I don't see the basis or need for such behavior.

The point was about the space in the inspector window, having camera angles added would not add all that much more to what is already a busy window, now that there is 3D text and materials, I was commenting on the illogical reason put forward by Apple, about space, I think that is simply not a plausible or frankly logical reason put forward.

I think the reason camera parameters was left out of 10.2 was not because of text space on screen, it simply was not ready for 10.2, but will be a latter addition. This makes sense given how Apple has updated FCP X in the past.

If you don't want to modify the existing 3D Text presets in Motion, try Ripple 3D Animations. They are free and offer more parameters than the included 3D presets.

to proof your opinion, and more meant for a laugh:
These are the 'options' a commercially distributed Lense Flare plug-in offers; it comes with 60 (!!) presets, plus a gazillion knobs'n sliders for 'customizsation' ...

a bit 'over the top' by my standards.... :woohoo:

to have options is nice, but this is a nightmare in terms of usability ...
