Hi

I am thinking of one of these two web video sharing client commenting services but have not used either. Is there someone who has experience in both or switched over, would be keen to know.

Thanks.

Both are good, but for me the pain is really on the upload and as I use Vimeo, I'd have to upload all my videos twice...
I've been testing a solution recently that plugs onto Vimeo, Dropbox, Youtube (etc..) called takes.io .
Well, their solution works pretty good for me and my clients, and the team is really nice.

The nice thing resides in their design, you don't feel like you're behind the Vimeo or the Youtube player (that is aweful for client reviews).
Using it for the last few months, tried frame.io and got back on takes.io . They haven't announced their pricing yet but they told me they will do it soon and it's gonna cost about 10$/team member/month, which also is the best pricing I've seen for this kind of product.

Hope this helps ;)

Im testing both of them now, and there are things I like about Wipster more, and things I like about Frame.io more. For example. I like that on Wipster you can share a video with anyone and they can comment on the video. With Frame.io they have to register to make any comments as far as I understand. On Frame.io you can compare two version of an edit side by side, and toggle the audio back and forth, you can't do that on Wipster.

Frame.io seems more robust, and Wipster is a bit simpler to use.

Thanks. Yeh, I've been getting the same feeling. With Wipster clients just click and comment, no learning curve.

Also been thinking about frame.io's FCP 10 inclusion which is cool but it isn't such a hassle to get it into Wipster. I think what I like best thou in Wipster is that wherever you click you can comment, no need to click the pen tool etc...

Still very new to me thou so I might be missing things. Trying Wipster with one client to see how it goes.

If you are going to use Wipster, you can create an account using this link > app.wipster.io/SignMeUp/AR-oAAAPWA6V (and I get some free extra minutes, thanks!)

That pricing seems good until you add more than one team member, considering they arent doing any of the video hosting. I tried it with WeTransfer and it didnt work.

Also, with Vimeo for example, having to upload there, configure the settings, wait for it to convert, then copy the link and go to takes.io Seems like Wipster and Frame.io is much quicker and straight forward. Why do you need to upload to two websites? I would only need Vimeo for final versions.

I'm using Kollaborate.tv which I really love, although I do get the occasional client "can't get the video to play" bug. anyone compare it to Frame.io? The having clients sign up for an account kinda turns me off of Frame.io despite their cool looks. Kollaborate also has FCPX integration (and has for the past year).

Thanks did not know about Kollaborate :) And yes needing to have an account for clients is a definite no no.

You could also try beamshare.com - it's as easy as WeTransfer but no need for the client to download the video.

Instead it sends a link of the video to the client, they just click on it to view the video and add time-based feedback without having to sign up.

Sorensen Squeeze Pro (and maybe the standard version too) has a fairly intuitive client approval system. They can approve, decline, comment etc. and you can customize the video player among other things. Plus you get an excellent compression app to boot.

Creating history....one edit at a time !

Hi.

I have not used Avid in a billion years and am only Mac based :) I have two clients using Wipster and everything is going really well. So I am quite sold but the other options have been great to know about.

I'll just add about Kollaborate that you get access to CutNotes Integration and Cineplay on your iOS devices, which have been great for me reviewing stuff in the field. Digital Rebellion has a nice suite of tools that work well together. Having looked at the others, it's ahead of the curve IMO.

I think we're one of the few companies in this field that's not a startup. So we don't see Kollaborate as just a website or a single entity (or indeed as a short-term VC buyout opportunity) but as a platform to build our products around. And that integration will become ever tighter over time.

Our other key philosophy is that abstraction can sometimes be better than simplification. So our approach is to keep the complex features out of the way of casual users but still have them there for those that want to take the time to learn how to use them. We like to give people options and that is why Kollaborate is the most powerful and flexible service on the market in my opinion.

(Plus we have some powerful new integration features coming very soon for in-house customers.)

I've been testing out these products over the past few months and Wipster was the winner for me. It's incredibly simple and it can upload from Dropbox which speeds the import time *dramatically*. Uploading is my biggest hurdle to online collaboration since I'm capped at a 3mbps upload speed (no providers offer anything faster here). Syncing files up to Dropbox rather than uploading directly has saved me lots of headaches. (Frame.io consistently timed out when uploading from within FCPX, so I gave up.)

I primarily work with one or two people on my projects, and the simple interface that Wipster offers is sufficient. I also like the to-do list it generates from the comments and the satisfaction I get from an email saying a client has approved a final edit.

Kollaborate would be the tool I'd consider if I were working with another editor, a larger team, or a feature-length project.

I save vast amount of time and get far more accurate feedback when I use Wipster. I think I get more feedback, too, and my projects are better as a result. Can't beat that for $15 a month!
