I called my demo 'future freeze', this one? ...
And, no, I hadn't announced a tutorial... not sure, the Motion Projects exists anymore on any of my drives..? ... wouldn't promise, actually tons of 'real life' work to do, but maybe I can post within a week a sort-of MakingOf ...
But Ben is a by far a better teacher... I'm good in painting red arrows

Looks like, Ben is incredible busy these days - being at NAB, being here (and there) on the boards, giving courses, plus his new website, where he announced a ton of new tutorials - he needs a 30h day!
... I'll try to post a tut about the future-freeze - which is basically the same as your 'echo freeze' effect, aside I'm usisng just one freeze, and on a diff. position of the timeline. It all about masking plus motion-lock/-tracking - if you don't use a tripod.... Handheld gives the effect a bit more "ooooh, what's that!?"

Depends on movements ... I record in a way, I can manage the trick:
In the example, I posted, cam is at a fix position (= "Dogma-style", 'laid' on a tripod, but not fixed to a tripod), no zoom ...
>> then, Motions MotionTracker/single point gives the reuslt you can see; my tracking-point was some window corner, which is in view as long as my son 'freezed' in the scenery.
I didn't own SliceX to that date (meanwhile I do), ... I will try more 'complex' movements..
...... and I still can not find the 'raws' of that video! My harddrives are a mess!!!! :pinch:
Maybe this evening I can post a ... no, I can't! Tonight FC Bayern vs. Borussia Dortmund, semi-finals in DFB-Pokal, the most rival teams in the Bundesliga.
No, tutorial has to wait ... sorry!

If you do it in Motion, using the built-in Motion tracker, basically the same steps. Should be easy to translate. But, then, why round-trip when doing it in FCPX is faster?
P.S. This is the demo I brought with me to do at the Coremelt booth at NAB Show 2015.
