I have both Compressor 3.5 and 4.2 installed. Is there any negative impact on FCPX by having them both on the machine? I believe 3.5 was installed either with the Logic Studio bundle or maybe even when DVD Studio Pro was installed.
If I remove Compressor 3.5, will the Logic Bundle and DVD SP continue to function and make use of Compressor 4.2.
Also, what is the proper way to remove 3.5 from the system.
Thanks for any help on this.

I'd put those legacy apps into a folder called Legacy Apps, inside the Applications folder, so they don't conflict/overwrite the newer apps.
You can simply drag an app to the Trash, but that will leave behind system files that belong to it. Download the free app "FCS Remover" from Digital Rebellion. It will totally remove all trashes of Compressor from your system if you want to really uninstall it.

Thanks, Ben. Do those legacy apps require 3.5 or if I uninstall it will they use 4.2 as needed?

They don't actually use Compressor, except for the Send To Compressor commend. Encoding Jin those apps actually use the encoding engines in the OSX.

BenB, did you remove Qmaster from your system?
I'm also running compressor 3.5 and 4.2 together but a lot of times I'm having problems in compressor 4 where jobs got stuck on "starting" and never finishing.
For now I just removed 3.5. I also recommend you to download "FCS Remover" as Ben already suggested.
It is really a great tool to completely remove any part of the suite.

I removed Qmaster long ago. I've not had any legacy apps on my system in over 3 years. I strive for a healthy, up to date system.
