Help with Duplicating a clip and lifting - NOT staying in sync

Hi group, in fcp7 I used to dupe a clip and keep it in sync by clicking the option key but in x every time I need to do this the clip is out of sync and the magnetic timeline creates an issue.
Can anyone please assist me in figuring out how to do this without having to nudge back and forth?
I really appreciate it... Thanks Dave

Be sure snapping is on (N), hold Option, drag the clip from the Primary Storyline up and above itself, very easy. Or I'm not understanding what is trying to be done. This is exactly like v.7.
