At the presentation Apple gave for FCPWORKS, during NAB Show 2015, a product manager told us (and I've had private conversations with this individual and others at Apple who say the same thing) that filling out the feedback page is VITAL! If you want things to happen with FCPX, they rely on those to see what y'all want out of the app. So, if you want a new feature, something changed, or if something isn't working, PLEASE fill out the feedback page before you do anything else. Apple does in fact read them, catalog them, and use them to get approval (yes, "approval") for new features and such. Can't stress how very, VERY important these feedback pages are to getting these apps moving in the direction we, the end users, want them to.

I totally agree with this - PLUS it's always nice to see a feature or fix in an update that you (and countless others) have reported.

Creating history....one edit at a time !

This thread or one like it (maybe with a different headline so people are more prone to click on it) should be pinned at the top of the forum. Everyone needs to know this.

I for 1 second do not believe that the feedback page submissions are read, there is zero evidence of such, and the say so from an insider would cost that insider his/her job.

Apple has the resources to employ the services or buy a public relations firm to handle feedback submissions, to have 2 way conversations with consumers that submit feedback and error reports.

I know that the feedback pages are not read as recently with the over a month before Apple responded to the Pro Codec update that kept asking to be updated. I reported this error every time, and in fact someone here reported that Apple asked not to have errors reported, I re-reported, and nothing happened, by nothing I mean, the error took days to be corrected and I had no follow up.

it has been over 20 weeks since the last update, Apple should at least publish something in that time, or issue a statement.

I hold firm that we are passed the era of secracy, that there should be open beta versions of upcoming improvements, as is the case in every other aspect of OS/iOS, why is FCPX so special it warrants total secrecy.

We the users are the ones doing the free marketing of this product, Apple does not pay for any of this free marketing, or maybe it does by not charging for updates, I said yesterday I was tired of singing the praises of FCPX, and I mean it.

FCPX is a great product let down by poor make that zero public relations and too infrequent bug/update fixes.

We deserve better service from Apple, and I am saddened that no one apart from me is saying this.. FCPX has the potential to be a match winner, Apple is scoring own goals by not providing updates, pdf's and video on the in action page.

Again I do not believe that feedback pages are used for the purpose of improving the software, the coding of updates is not that complex it takes 20 weeks to achieve, people are way too smart, so there has to be another reason for the lack of updates...Is FCPX obsolete?

I've personally had follow-up queries from Apple about issues I've submitted via the feedback page, and from posts to this board I'm far from alone in that.

Sure, I'd love to see a faster pace of development, and I guess I'd like Apple to be more open about their roadmap. But I can't buy future products, I can only buy and use what's available *now*. Right now, FCPX fits my needs pretty well, and certainly better than anything else out there. Which is why I use it, and why I visit this forum.

I am not saying FCPX is bad, it is by far the most versatile, affordable non linear editing system on the market. Apple is doing itself no favours with silly decisions such as killing of pdf's and not having updated video on the in action website.

The notion of feedback is it is a 2 way conversation, if not then it is a pure reporting system, and thus the very name is incorrect, it should be called Error Reporting Page, or Request for Update page. The use of the word "feedback" implies a follow up 2 way interaction, and there is scant evidence of Apple contacting users.

My question remains valid.. Is FCPX obsolete?

Only in signals processing/engineering. In more common use, the dictionary definition of 'feedback' is:

Information about reactions to a product, a person’s performance of a task, etc. which is used as a basis for improvement.

(source: Oxford English Dictionary }

Aside from that: I'm not at all clear how the feedback system would offer us any real indication of Apple's commitment (or otherwise) to FCPX.

What we have in FCPX and Apple is engineering, video editing engineering. The point is, Apple is obsessed with how things look, to the point of being certifiable, the use of the word feedback is a not a random selection, it was chosen for a very deliberate reason, what that reason is/was is for Apple to disclose, if they so choose.

I edit something, I hand it over, I expect feedback from the client, it was good, bad, or plain ugly, I do not edit without some sort of response back, this is feedback, how else can I improve if no one says anything.

I have an idea, I post it to Apple, the worst they can do is ask 1 question to further elaborate/explain my idea as they understand it, as far as I know, Curptino does not provide mind reading headsets to the guy/gal lucky/unlucky enough to have the task of reading the submissions via the page in question.

Why Apple choose not to follow up, is a powerful signal that it is not interested in the users, if they were serious, then why not write back, hire a company to write back to customers??? There is a reason for Apple making the decisions to frustrate users, to make the experience of the product somewhat tortured...There has to be a reason for this madness..

I wonder who added a -karma to my tally...

Justin, stick to what you factually know about, because software development is not one of them. I know for a FACT that Apple does read, catalog, and track the information submitted by the feedback pages. LOTS of folks have been contacted by Apple from those pages. But there are so many, they can not possibly afford, nor does it make sense to respond to every single person to fills one out. If five thousand folks submit about one bug, they'll contact the most intelligent, detailed, and usefully filled out feedback, and contact those few people to correct it. As for feature enhancements, they take that information, tally it up, and consider it. The in FACT do that. I know for a FACT they track it, and I've said this numerous times on these forums. I can't say how I know, but I know, and if you insist on calling me a liar, that's your right.

Secrecy in IT R&D is more important now than ever. Innovative development is moving at break neck speeds, and competition is so fierce, any edge you can get on the competition can make or break you. Letting the world know what you're doing is suicide. Adobe and Avid do NOT announce far ahead of time what they're developing, nor do they have PR firms pushing their products. FCPX is selling just fine, and there is no reason for Apple to promote it, extra money just wasted. What would advertising it do? Anyone who needs to know about it already does.

You don't need a two way conversation with every single user to know what people are thinking, or what bugs to fix. You only need to speak to the select few who will give you the intelligent, consistent information that will help you with discovering bugs. As I said before.

Just because Apple does not contact you personally, Justin, doesn't mean they don't contact anyone. Maybe think twice about how you fill out your feedback. It could be "you" and not "everyone else".

Apple makes software and hardware products. People give feedback on them. Apple adjusts as they see fit. What's the problem? Your arguments make logical sense only to someone with very limited knowledge of how the IT industry works, and refuses to listen to those who do know the facts.

That was me.

Your contributions have left the area of 'entertainment' way behind it.

Are you a coder? Did you ever participate in a project that size?

MsJustine wrote: ... Why Apple choose not to follow up, is a powerful signal that it is not interested in the users ...

Do you read what others posted here? Just a few lines above yours, jsanderson is telling you that he was contacted by Apple. And when I was beta-tester for some Quicktime stuff, they contacted me too ...

So, concider that YOU didn't get the powerful signal, that they are not interested in you ...

ahhh, whatever. DFTT ....

Hi Ben

Would you kindly explain the rationale behind the way Apple publicly promotes upcoming updates of OS and iOS, we can see what the next updates may include, as this is in the public domain, everyone sees the upcoming ideas long before they are released for the general public, if Apple does this for the heart of the product, then why not for FCPX?

Costs money?? Apple get free marketing by all of us that defend FCPX, it would cost nothing to have an updated professional website, with reliable access to all related pfd's and not the ebboks, which are a nightmare to use.

Coding I know nothing about, other than there are plenty of very brainy people at Apple who may I am sure not working very hard to push a release at least once every 6 months. Apple buys companies more often than I buy breakfast cereal, so that is not a reason. Money is not a concern for Apple Inc...

Apple does everything for a reason, every single letter, full top, comma carefully decided, so the name for the only way for the public to contact Apple in case of issues, has to be important, and people may say that Apple contacts them, do I believe them, no I do not.

Not marketing, not being visible is not a great sign, it shows that Apple does not care about the product. This is evident in the poor quality website knows as In Action, which is a downgrade from the previous version for Final Cut Studio 2... Why no video on the 2015 page???

MsJustine,

Please keep to facts that you know. As stated filling in the feedback page is very important. if Apple want to follow it up, they will contact you.

If they don't it could be because they are aware of the problem, have fixed the problem or you might be one of many who have posted the same problem.

Either way, if you want to let Apple know, this is the best method. This thread is finished.
