I have a phase cancellation problem on a section of video uploaded to Youtube which was edited and rendered in FCPX (10.1.4 not the 10.2 version). I have two clips in the video that was recorded with a Tascam DR-70D (nice recorder) where the audio goes blank when played back on a HTC, iPhone or other cellphone. These cellphone speakers ARE MONO... not stereo. All the audio plays back well when wearing headphones on the cellphones.
I can't tell you how the Tascam was set when recording. I synced the Tascam audio to the video and I see that the audio is set to Stereo and I see only three audio modes listed in the audio pulldown menu. Now the strange things is when I look at Syned audio I did in another project, the pulldown shows at least six menu choices! So something was recorded differently this time.
Somehow, this is a no go for Youtube a handheld cellphones. The audio plays fine on a lap/desktop but these devices are mono and the sound from one speaker is cancelling the sound from the other before it gets to the ears. I know I should be able to set "mono to stereo" somewhere. I don't see how to do this in 10.2 yet.
Does anyone know how I can correct this beside reshooting?
Thanks,

U can use the Direction Mixer plug that´s in FCPX. Turn the phase of either the left or right leg of your audio, wich one doesn´t matter as long as you don´t turn both. This should probably fix it.

I agree, seems like a phase cancellation issue.
Also this similar discussion here on FCPco… www.fcp.co/forum/4-final-cut-pro-x-fcpx/...audio-monitoring-bug
Thanks Rrongman, didn't know you could reverse phase inside FCPX. I use mostly external DAWs (Logic ProX) for most audio processing.
Unclear if this is a bug in new FCPX or OS or not.
Hope this helps, Greg

You're welcome VidGreg
yes it's there since most of the Logic plugstuff is inside FCPX.
I'm still in 10.1.4 but I've seen the other discussion that you mention.

The Gain plugin also allows for phase inverting. Others you can drop one of the channels out and go Mono, unless its music. You don't really want to do that music unless you have to.
