Outputting from FCPX was created by Grendel
Hi Peoples
I'm a newbie to FCPX.
Can anyone help me with exporting.
I want to be able to preview the video on TV. My TV can display HD.
I have 'shared' the output into a number of formats, the last 1080 HD, but the TV doesn't recognise the .mov file or says it is unable to open it.
My TV has media-player .... but all my shares from FCPX are unavoidably Quick-time.
Am I missing a plug-in or something ?
Greg

You have to see the manual of your TV to find out what format can playback the media player.

Thanx Nickytin,
I have a Sony Bravia TV. It accepts the following thru it's USB Port:
USB Playback FAT16, FAT32, exFAT and NTFS file systems.) MPEG1/MPEG2PS/MPEG2TS/AVCHD/MP4Part10/MP4 Part2/AVI(XVID)/AVI(MotinJpeg)/MOV/WMV/MKV/WE BM/3GPP/MP3/WMA/WAV/JPEG/MPO/RAW(ARW)
My output from FCPX is MOV ... which is listed. The TV sees the mov on the USB stick and attempts to open it using media-player .. then returns the message unable to open file.
Also, I don't have compressor, I am just exporting by sharing on the file menu. Is compressor a better way to 'share' (I'm new to mac techo speak) With compressor will I be able to select any format output?

choose 'share to AppleTV 1080'
in the following dialogue, under Options, change Format from 'Apple device' to 'computer' >> creates a compatible across all platforms h.264.mp4 … and,no, just changing the suffix .mov >> .mp4 doesn't do the trick.
but....
Some devices ask for a special Folder structure/naming scheme (e.g. on top level of stick a folder named VIDEOS and inside the mp4) - check the manual of your telly......

Thanx Karsten.
I will try that tonite when I get home.
I have a further question. What is Compressor and do I need it. I mainly put together home-type montages of my travels. I have only just purchased my first iMac and FCPX.
I am just amateur and have only ever used windows movie maker

wow, that's huge jump! Very different concepts ... but you will get used to it, if you don't try to keep habitual workflows ....
No, you don't 'need' Compessor.
It does what the name says: compressing video from one format to another; or batch converts one movie into a handful of the codecs, resoutions, bit-rates ... and some more 'voodoo', the hobbyist doesn't need (nice2have, if its 50$ don't zaps your hobby budget...)
And it is 'integrated' into FCPX; you can share indivual settings to FCPX, and you have it as a 'preset'.
read how Apple sells it:
www.apple.com/final-cut-pro/compressor/
... for conversions, the undisputed Master is MpegStreamclip; it too converts into manyfold formats - for free. (in case, Stefano, its sprogrammer, get a 1 cent per download, he'd be a rich man!)
much better investment, is Motion5! But that is another story, we talk about in the next semester...
