So I noticed that Apple when advertising new features on the Final Cut website has a small highlight reel showing the 3D Text effects, however almost all of their examples have text that is tracked and placed in the scene. I know you can keyframe position and probably use the tracker in Motion, but for the purposes of staying in FCPX entirely, is there currently anyway to track the new 3D text to a scene?

I don't have it but I was looking into CoreMelt's TrackX which happens to be on sale for NAB and was wondering how well these two things would work together. Has anybody used TrackX, specifically with he new 3D Text Effects?

You can track static 3D text in Coremelt now. It would be cool if they could do 3D space tracking, too.

I think Apple's example were created in Motion and tracked with Motion's tracking.

Any Idea how they made the last shot react to the ambient lighting? Full disclosure, I'm a Motion rookie, where is that in Motion?

Roger from Coremelt mentioned they were working on a solution for it. Right now it doesn't take perspective into account.

track x is a 2d planar tracker - but you can cheat the z axis with it if you know what you are doing...

for true 3d motion tracks you need something like boujou or pfmatchit (i use PF matchit) - which generates a 3d point cloud.

Pfmatchit is awesome as it also exports a motion scene - which you can now just drop 3d text into.

I have a ton of 3d tracks on my demo reel here

vimeo.com/96566537

Shame Pfmatchit has been EOLed - they were a terrible company to deal with on licensing - i wrote them an email to take note of Red Giant / FX factory / Crumplepop licensing models - but i suspect they arent interested in any users other than medium to large studios.

To get their 3d motion tracking functionality you now have to pay for their full package which as around $900 us...

At the Apple presentation today at NAB, they said that demo was 100% done in Motion, with Motion's built in tracking. The 3D text can take on ambient lighting very easily. Soon as I'm home from NAB tomorrow, I'll be producing 3D text tutorials. Super powerful, super easy to use.

i'd love to see motion get a basic 3d tracker - the single point or 4 corner pin tracks are not as reliable as a mocha or point cloud 3d track.

But i'd love to be proven wrong by a Motion built in tracking gun!

Is there a link to their demo ?
