I did the update to 10.2 today and it smokes on my 27 inch imac from 2014.
3d text is super impressive and makes mobject and cinema4d obsolete for me (Sorry plug in and software developers)
"memory leak" seems to be gone
optical flow for slow motion seems to be turbocharged - in fact all performance seems to be radically snappier
WELL DONE APPLE - this is a huge achievement.
BUT
doing the upgrade on my 2013 macbook air - i5 4gb ram - the app store upload went fine - all on the latest osx is loaded (it wont let you do the update process until the latest osx is loaded)
However When i went to open FCPX 10.2 directly from the app store via the open tab - 10.1.4 keeps coming up - even the icon looks like the new FCPx icon.
Anyone have any ideas? - perhaps i should delete the app and do a fresh 3gb download?

I don't know why this is happening, so doing a fresh re-install is worth a try.

A full trash and reinstall and the macbook air is thriving on 10.2!
Not just that but the upgrade has effectively given me Macbook Pro performance on my macbook air!
The 2013 Macbook air is actually closer to Mabook pro performance than most people realise - with its i5 processor, ssd hard drive and thunderbolt connectivity. There is a reason that it was consistently awarded best laptop of 2013/14.
The coding / background activity optimisations in the newFCPX 10.2 mean im getting really nice performance editing 4k and 1080p on a 1080p timeline. It handled it before - but now its really nice. Of course FCPX absolutely flies along on my 27 inch imac which is my primary edit station.
Even the 3d text functionality using the AIR was snappy - which i was expecting the Air to struggle with a bit.
Usually my air is just a data wrangle and basic cuts in the field option - but i just got a whole lot more performance for free! I reckon its a macbook pro now! Only lighter and with slower rendering power.
I wouldnt normally recommend the air as your primary editor ( it works for me in the field as i need to be light and dynamic on my shoots and get tons of footage organised in a library before i bring it onto my Imac) ) but i think, if you were on a budget, with a big screen and a thunderbolt drive connected you could be editing nicely as long as you weren't doing a lot of multicam.
This works especially well for those of you who are on outdoor shoots where you might need to do a lot of hiking to shoot different set ups.
Thanks Apple for delivering the value !

Hi Matt,
Thanks for the heads-up and glad everything is running smoothly for you now.
The leaner and cleaner your system, the better you apps will run. Everyone should do an erase and re-install at least once or twice a year. Makes a huge difference.
When you use an app like Carbon Copy Cloner to erase and re-install from a clean system backup this only takes an hour. We do this every month on our production machines, automated by CCC. And we never have performance issues.
I agree 10.2 runs slick as butter, even with native MXF now. Happy to hear you are seeing the performance boost as well.
