Hey gang,
has anybody figured out how to keyframe the many axis of 3D titles? or at least the z axis?
I'm assuming at this point i'll have to stop being lazy and go to motion...

You need to use Motion for full custom animation. Lot of animation presets with options.

Actually my review shows how to do it inside FCPX, with a minor modification.

I did the following 100% inside of FCPX.

Wow ! That was impressive. Since I am new to 3d text, I have two questions: Are some fonts better suited than another. Is there a minimum size of the fonts to get the "great look" ?

Yes, some fonts lend themselves to extrusion and edge shaping more than others. I'd say experiment and see. Learning 3D text is simply a lot of experimenting at first. Go nuts.

You will often hear the advice, use 'blocky' fonts, sans serif, no 'handwriting'
Immediately comes to my mind the counterexample, way back in my ad years, for a foto shooting a beer, the lacy product name was done by a goldsmith, so hair thin letters were wrapped on the bottle, givin' the label some more rafinesse (that was pre-computer, pre-digital, pre-photoshop era) , ... one of those prepared bottles cost >10.ooo Deutschmarks - done with real gold - LOL!
What Ben said: play, try, get crazy
