Remove Timeline "tags" or "keywords was created by Montezumeflex
Hi everyone,
Just a quick question, I've marked a few clips with keywords and added them to a timeline.
When I open the "Timeline Index" (Shift + Cmd + 2) It will show me a list of markers, tags and Roles in the project.
On 1 of my projects there are 31 keywords in the "Tags" list, because 31 shots are added to the timeline, and because they where in a Keyword Collection they all had the tag "Shots from day 1"
Is there a way to remove these tags in the "Timeline Index"? When i select the shot and press cmd + K it shoes the keyword editor, but this only seems to work in the event viewer, not for clips in the timeline.
This is driving me absolutely crazy, is there no way to remove keywords from clips that are already placed in the timeline? I assume it should be possible, because it is possible for markers to be removed afterwards as well.
I could provide some screenshots as well but I hope I'm just overlooking something and someone can point me in the right direction.
Kind Regards,
Martijn

Hi Martijn,
The reason why Keywords are listed in the Timeline Index is because this allows you to select all clips in the timeline that belong to a specific keyword, from within the Index. If you were able to remove keywords in the Timeline Index this would defeat the whole purpose of having them there. If you don't want to see the keywords you can select to only see Markers, Notes etc...

Hey Ronny,
Completely true. I was just surprised to see that if I remove the keyword from the clip in the clip browser, the keyword will still stay on the clip in the timeline. It seems that the only way to remove the clip keyword is to delete it from the project timeline, and then add it again from the event browser.
The reason I am asking this, I have to put a few of these projects in a big timeline and I read somewhere that using a lot of markers could slow the interface down a lot. I guess I shouldn't worry about it to much.
Thank for your clearing this up.

About markers slowing down long timelines:
I have heard this as well, but I have not been able to reproduce it so far. Apparently this was an issue with 10.1 (which had many issues) running on a slower computer with only an Intel HD 3000 GPU. I haven't seen any particular slowdowns with markers on regular editing machines, even with +200 markers on the timeline. But when you are editing on a system with minimum specs or on an older MacPro it is always a good idea to keep the Timeline Index and the Inspector closed when playing long or complex timelines, and to avoid having many markers on the timeline.
I agree an option to make modifications on a clip in the timeline reflect in the parent clip in the browser could be useful in some cases. But sometimes such options can also cause other unwanted behavior. If you would like to be able to delete keyword annotations from within the timeline you should send a feature request to Apple using the FCP X feedback function. The more people ask for a specific feature the more chance you have that this feature will make it in a future update.

Hi Ronny,
Thanks for your through answer. It's really good to hear that you haven't seen any slowdown issues caused by markers. This was basically my only concern and reason why I would like to clean them up.
For further troubleshooting I've removed some drivers (Wacom/Blackmagic SDI Card) and used a fresh account (I noticed you advise this to a lot of people) to see if this would speed up my timeline in Final Cut X.
After all It turned out to be a minor problem with our NAS. Took me a few hours to figure it out but I've been editing today on my MacPro and timeline performance has definitely improved! Thanks again for your feedback, it is much appreciated!
Kind regards,
Martijn
