Hello all

been spending a lot of time editing and learning new things with fcpx
got a few family videos under my belt now

last night i copied a library from one mac to another (copy and paste)
opened up the copied library in fcpx and all i got was a bunch of red files

any idea what i might of done wrong ?
i thought if i had the library set up to handle all the media i could copy it and open it on another machine without issue
this copy took place over the air from my imacs raid to to macpro

cheers

Hi Mark,

Good to hear you are enjoying working with FCP X.

Can you post a screenshot of some of these red files?

Great. I don't think you have missing media, but you could have missing effects or titles between both computers. Will see your screenshot when you get back.

Hi Mark,

Yep, that's missing media. This should not happen when you are working with a fully managed Library.
So could you check the original Library on the iMac?

- Launch FCP X on the iMac and select the Library in the Library browser.
- Then go to the Inspector and check the Media Location. It should be set to In Library.
- If this is correct, press the Consolidate button to make sure that any clips that could be outside the Library get imported into it.
- If you see any consolidating going on, wait until the process is finished and then you will be able to transfer the Library to your MacPro without any issues.

If you get a message saying there is nothing to consolidate this means that all your media is already managed. In that case I would advise you to transfer the Library to your MacPro via a drive and not over the air. Wireless transfers sometimes can screw up complex files.
