What to save after a project is completed?

Hi All-

I just finished 7 videos. I have a folder for each video with the original 1)FCPX Library(.fcpbundle) 2) The Master .mov video and 3) The .mp4 file I uploaded to Vimeo.

I want to save these video folders to my external HD now, but what should I save of the 3 items? I gather I don't need to save the .mp4 file since I have the Master?

One of the videos was all a slideshow, just images (no video clips). I didn't allow FCPX to download those images, just kept them on my desktop. Those images will not be in the saved library correct? I have no reason to want them there. All video clips have been downloaded into the projects.

Also, what about all those rendered files? are they all within the .fcpbundle ? Do I need to open each Library to trash those rendered files? or do I need to save the rendered files?

I have waited a good week and have made all the corrections etc to what's on Vimeo. I don't see changing any of the videos or making any changes with them in the near future.

Thanks for any tips on saving my several project/Library files.

check out this thread and watch the youtube videos re: media management
they give you a good understanding of how the media is management in fcpx
from memory they also talk about what to do once your project is finished

Select the Library inside FCPX, go to the File menu, chose Delete Generated Library Files. Delete it all, FCPX can regenerate it all just fine.

Then go to the Inspector and click the "Consolidate" button, to verify the Library is self-contained, so if you move it, nothing gets lost or unlinked.

Anything you exported doesn't matter. If you need to keep a copy, export a Master File and keep that. The Library won't care about what was exported.

does keeping a master file allow me to re open that project and take sections of it out to use in a different project ?

IE: best of hockey 2015 recap ?

No, a Master File is a QuickTime file that is your final product. It is not the project, it is not the library, it is not the "parts". It is one flat file, that's all. To go back and re-edit something, you need the Library.

After my project is completed, I create a new managed library which will be the "archive", the I copy the project from the first library to the archive one. The clip used for this project (and only those one) are copied inside this library (without proxy or optimizes), i choose consolidate and i have the lighter library i can, with all the media I need to do others exports if needed.
