To bring the playhead to the beginning of the timeline press the Home key (arrow pointing up left):

Page up on the big keyboard, and page down to go to the end.

Manual, 458ff lists all shortcuts.

I don't have an MBP at hand right now, but I think it's fn + left arrow.

There is a free app called Cheat Sheet that is very good at showing/teaching keyboard shortcuts including the ones you create. Once installed, if you hold down the command key for a set period of time, then a pop out window appears with all the keyboard shortcuts for what ever program you are in. Great for learning/remembering shortcuts.
