hi all, hope you are well,
so still learning final cut a little and following some vids from youtube i noticed that when the person in the video used blade tool and then deleted a chunk of video the rest stayed where it was.
hwever, my problem is that as soon as i blade the bit i want to take out and delete it, it then joins the first bit and the leftover bit together not like what i seen int he video, can anyone shed some light here?
Kind regards
Marc

Assuming you're looking at a tutorial for FCPX, the user pressed shift-delete or the forward delete key rather than just delete.

delete = ripple delete, deltes clip, ripples following clips to close gap.
shift+delete = lift delete, lifts clip out of edit, replaces with gap clip.

Hi Marc,
Welcome to the magnetic timeline.
Just to add one small thing, if you want to create a gap you use the Position tool (keyboard p). This creates a gap clip to hold a spot if you need.
Personally, I love the magnetic timeline. Got so tired of FCP7 going out of sync and messing up late in game.
Hope this helps, Greg
