Multichannel files from mono files was created by timetraveller
Hi,
Does anybody know a way of creating multichannel (polyphonic) files from mono files?
I've received a lot of mono files from the sound recording team.
4-6 files each take depending of the number of mics used in the scene.
I've tried "Wave Agent" but it doesnt works afterwards with "Sync n Link". I don't know yet if it's a bug of "sync n link" or a bug by "wave agent" when creating the files.
The sound recording team used an Aaton Cantar.
Thanks in advance guys...

Hi TimeTraveller!
I thought you could do this in FCPX this way:
Maybe someone else comes up with a better solution... Sorry, man.
Good luck!

I thought you could do this in FCPX this way:
- Go to the Modify menu and choose Edit Roles. Select the Dialogue role, and create a Subrole for each mic type.
- In the Browser, select all the WAV files that share the same mic number. Go to the Inspector and assign them the corresponding subrole.
- Repeat this step with all the different mic types. You should be able to assign the proper Role to all the audio files in a few seconds.
- In the Browser, sort the audio files by take. Select all the audio files that correspond to a particular take and create a Multicam Clip (Alt G). Name it after the take number. And choose "Angle Assembly - Clips" and "Angle Synchronization - Start of First Clip".
- Repeat this step with all the takes.
- Select all the Multicam Clips and edit them into a project (in the order that you want).
- In the Timeline, select all the Multicam Clips, open the Inspector and make sure all the audio channels are activated!
- If you don't have Primaries Exporter or a similar app to batch export, you will have to manually set a range for the duration of each take, and then Share it as a Master File.
- The problem with this method is that as soon as you choose "Audio Only" in the Share Menu, FCPX will not allow you to export a multitrack audio file. Sadly, this option is only available with Quicktime export but not with WAVE, AIFF nor any other audio formats. It would be very useful to have this option, so I guess it's time to SEND FEEDBACK TO APPLE!
Maybe someone else comes up with a better solution... Sorry, man.
Good luck!

Maybe you can sync the files in Plural Eyes 3 or Resolve 11 and Batch Export them as multitrack WAVE files?
Let me know if that works better.
Cheers,
Jesús

Hi timetraveller,
Wave Agent is very reliable, but maybe it fails with Aaton files. Aaton tends to save their files different from others regarding file structure.
I don't have Sync'n Link cause I have my own tool. So I can't talk about it.
But I doubt that the app really looks inside the actual iXML of the files, but takes the iXML data stored in FCP X XML. These might fail if the the iXML is not at the "right" place in the file structure.
I haven't used Aaton files since some years but with the files left as backups FCP X ignores the iXML data.
Feel free to send me a set of mono files and I'll have a look.

I just deleted the field "camera angle" from the sound files, which was "z_Audio", and it worked.
I had checked the option "Add audio+video metadata to synchronized clips"
Maybe it's a bug in Sync n link" when merging metadata.
Thanks jesus and Andreas for you answers!!!
