Best Project Settings Resolution for 5k Export to 1080 Deliverable

Hello,

I am editing footage that was shot on a RED Dragon at 5K (5568 x 3132 @ 29.97FPS) and will be delivering the edit in 1080.

My question is what is the most effective Project Settings for the footage I have in relation to what I need to deliver?

When I drag a piece of footage to the timeline I get several options:

4K - 3840x2160
4K - 3840x2048
4K - 3840x2160
4K - 3840x2304
4K - 3840x3112

4K - 4096x3112
5K - 5120x2160
5K - 5120x2560
5K - 5120x2700

or I could stick with what I have which is 5568 x 3132.

The reason I want to keep it 5K and not put it into a 1080 resolution project is if the client comes back in a few years and asks if I can provide them with a 4K version. I'm assuming if I do a 1080 version now and scale in on any clips to a great extent, that I'm going to have problems with providing them with a 4K version as I won't be able to push in without having artifacts?

I'm hoping to be able to export out a 5K file and then convert it in SqueezePro to a 1080 version for them initially.

Any thoughts or input is greatly appreciated.

For your format, use Custom, and type in your native numbers. I'd edit at native resolution, or one of the 5K presets, just keep as much image quality through the workflow as possible, before compressing down to 1080. The ability to come back and publish as a SHD format is a plus.
