How can i modify a regular supported file via "compressor4" without any change to the original codec (video codec automatic equivalent ) to just crop or burn in or watermark or change frame rate …?

What are the file specs? Compressor may not support it. You can drag a clip in the Custom folder of Compressor and it will read the file specs. Not always incredibly accurate, but it does get the codec. There is no codec pass through.

These two may help, also. In one I show how to do the timecode overlay.

As i was writing «How can i modify a regular supported file « , don’t worry to much about ProRes to ProRes reencoding since it is virtually transparent but some h264, AVC etc… are going to be massacred just to change for example the « frame rate » ( I know this is easily done by editing them in an FCP project but that is not my goal) , i suppose I will have to go thru a ProRes cycle to minimize the degradation.

I am a dreamer…
Thanks for the help

In Compressor, add a ProRes 422 HQ preset to it. Right click in the Batch pane for the ProRes encoding, select "New Job With Selected Output". Then change the frame rate, frame size, whatever on THAT one, using the codec of your choice. That way you avoid the serious generational degradation that can happen to H.264. Takes longer, but you get way, way better quality results. When transcoding, you have have fast, you can have good, but rarely both equally. It is a balancing act for sure.
