Hello all

first post
sorry for Newbi question

i exported 90 secs of footage last night (shot at 1080 60fps)
it exported to usb as h264 @27 fps and came out as a 850mb file (almost a gig for 90 secs)

i wanted it at 60fps so the slowed down parts were smooth but i havnt figured out how to do that yet

i have a brand new mac pro so the laptop seems happy enough with the workload
my editing skills are very basic :)

i must be missing a step somewhere but why does my 90 secs amatuer hack alot footage export so large.

You most probly selected in the Share dialogue Master file - those are encoded in proRes, not meant for distribution.

Instead choose Apple Device, and in the next dialogue, choose Computer.
This generates a tiny mp4-file in superb quality ..

Yep, well hidden, I think it was wizzard Ronny who told me the trick.

If you own Compressor, you can build a set with similiar scheme, finally having a 'mp4' option in FCPX share memu

BTW you can achieve the same thing with Master File->Settings->Computer. They both generate H.264 with a good quality bitrate but not excessively large. Yes if on either Apple Device or Master File you use Format: Video and Audio, then select Video codec: Apple ProRes 422, the resultant file will be quite large.

Just to note a little something: if you want smooth slowdowns, then shoot as 60fps and edit at 30fps.
This way if you slow to 50% your video has all the frames to be played. Making your project at 60fps will NOT help.

HappyFingers,
Couldn't tell if a hidden ? was how to slow down (Slo-Mo/Speed Ramp) some of your video.
Easy to do in FCPX.
Here is one of many tuts available… digitalcinemacafe.com/2014/01/11/tutoria...-10-1-speed-ramping/
You can also apply speed changes to whole clips.
Hope this helps, Greg

Actually, shoot at 60fps, edit in a 24fps Timeline, about 40% actual in-camera frame slow motion. Then slow down more from there with Optical Flow. Look for samples on this forum from my friend Mickey Gaidos, he does this with great success.
