Hi guys !

I just found out there's an app called Bittorrent Sync that makes sharing files very easy. It's not a cloud service, so you don't have to upload then download, and its not a remote desktop kinda thing, you just specify a folder on your computer and then if you send the link and password to someone, they can download the files. The computer where the files originate must be on because its a peer-to-peer, but who cares. I see it as a very easy way to send a whole lot of files between production houses and post-prod houses, and it has no limit. If you have a speedy internet connection, this could be very nice. As for me, I think that could mean I can work from home now yay ! If I sync a server folder, I can download files at home easily. This is just me projecting cause I havent tried anything yet. I just wanted you to know what I found. Going to test it now... Oh did I mention its free ! And there are iPhone and iPad versions too ! I got a link to a webpage that explains the whole thing. I used the program to keep three computer's Motion Template folder in sync. For the most part it worked well except for one folder it would recreate it four times and copy most of that person's effects into each folder. I was never able to figure out why this was happening, so I quit using it. My job uses Box for file sharing but i haven't tried yet to keep the Motion Template folder in sync. I do use it a lot for client approval and transferring finished projects.

I have been using it to sync motion templates between remote machines with no issues.

I have also used it to sync libraries with limited success. About 50% of the time the remote machine opens the library and relinks footage successfully only to have some of the clips appear online but have no media. In other words it just plays back silence and black video but says it is relinked.

I wonder if it has a hard time with .bundles like drop box does.

Been using it on a daily basis for a couple years now...its fantastic. The guys go and film, then send me the files through Sync when they get home by dropping it in our shared folder, or some other scenario like that usually...no more driving to pick up hard drives or any nonsense like that for the most part.

Really awesome.
