How to transfer a project from one version to another was created by roachk
I created a project with someone else's FCPX, version 10.0.9, which I no longer have access to, now, all I have is the "CurrentVersion.fcpproject" and the supporting folders and I need to open it in my FCPX 10.1.4. Can it be done? If so, how?
When I right-click>open with, the only option is Text Edit.

Welcome to the forum.
You should have two folders for this 10.0.9 production:
1. An Event folder with the name of your production. This folder contains a "CurrentVersion.fcpevent" file, a "Backups" folder, an "Original Media" folder and a "Render Files" folder.
2. A Project folder with the name of your production. This folder contains a "CurrentVersion.fcpproject" file, a "Backups" folder, a "Render Files" folder and a "Shared Items" folder. If you have made multiple Projects for this production you may have multiple Project folders.
Now this is what you do:
1. Create a new folder at the top level of your drive and name it Final Cut Events. Make sure the name is written exactly as I have written it.
2. Then create a new folder at the top level of your drive and name it Final Cut Projects.
3. Now drag the 10.0.9 Event folder into the Final Cut Events folder and drag the 10.0.9 Project folder(s) inside the Final Cut Projects folder.
4. Launch FCP X 10.1.4 and select File > Update Projects and Events. A message will appear, just click Update All.
FCP X will create a new Library that will contain the updated media and Project(s).
